A Sikh colleague and I at work were discussing the foolishness of talking too much and listening too little in the professional, corporate and work context.
I did a quick mobile Google search and selected some of these to read to my Sikh colleague, that was intrigued and I decided to comment further here.

Proverbs 10:19

Martin here lists verses 19-21 as humanly focusing 'On restraint rather than prattle'. Martin (1986: 666).
Foolish talk is always wise to avoid; instead one should restrain questionable talk.

Gossip and senseless chatter 'undermine the privacy which is essential to a confident and respectful society'. Martin (1986: 677).
Slander does as well.
In a professional, corporate context, discussion of others, a person should remain professional and not personal in the form of gossip, chatter and slander which undermines the work.
These attacks can take place in the form of ad hominem, which attacks the person as opposed to the argument, position and view.

In the professional, corporate, work context, humouring the fool is often preferred over rebuking him, as one still needs to work with the fool.

Fleming writes that one should 'listen' and that implies understanding. Fleming (1986: 696).
If one is rash and hasty with words, this can imply that one is not listening. It is vital to listen to God through his word as opposed to opining from one's own sinful nature. The guidance of God, and God the Holy Spirit needs to be sought.

Fleming: 'Through a little foolishness much good can be destroyed' Fleming (1986: 699). Foolishness inclines a person to do wrong and look a fool in public. Fleming (1986: 699).
When I read of 'ruler among fools' I think of some of the, not all, world leaders today in the context of government, corporations and religion as they place human wisdom, which can have merit, over that of the Biblical God. Some even mock those that trust in the Biblical God and Scripture.
Therefore there exists some foolish leaders, rulers among fools.

'The Original Mahavishnu Orchestra: The Complete Columbia Albums Collection' (1971-1973) arrived in the mail as I arrived home this evening. I bought it for the over ten bonus tracks, but the remastered versions of albums already owned are fantastic improvements.
ReplyDeleteI have placed almost all the CDs on iTunes at this point. I am amazed by the clarity of the music, which is better than the other official live material I have heard and the bootlegs I own (no shock). I am interested in drumming, more so on the philosophical level and drummed some in school, but not at the level of my cousin Brian in Scotland, for example; however, there are four Billy Cobham solos on the discs and he at that time was amazingly fast and had a great use of drum dynamics. He is still amazing and even drums with four sticks today, but varies speed more. He has more drum dynamics IMHO than the late Buddy Rich, also a jazz drummer, that had a smaller more traditional kit and placed more emphasis on the snare and snare speed as opposed to set speed. Both are mentioned in the 'best drummer' discussion, although I think there is no such thing. Further, as much as I think Cobham is tremendous (I emailed with him once in regard to a show in Vancouver that never happened, and he was very helpful) I have to admit that I do hear the occasional what sounds like stick clicking, and have read this critique on line. Not sure if it is intentional or part of the playing. Interesting contrast to another drummer in the 'best drummer' conversation, Neil Peart from Rush, that I cannot remember ever hearing a supposed stick click, but he typically is not as fast or technical as Cobham, playing more structured rock not jazz, but is more clean sounding. The solos are comparable for dynamics as complexity though IMHO.
ReplyDeleteTo me listening to a lot of drum solos as imperfect analogy, Cobham to me plays drums like a top Olympic athlete, while Peart plays the drums like a top Professor (his nickname).

I respect this authority for seeking justice. I have blog commented on this industry on my Blogger blogs over the years.

ReplyDeleteI head out to my parked car and notice a vehicle backed in, lights on and delaying leaving, next to my car forward in.
To me it looked a little suspicious, so I put my hand in my pocket with one of my legal military 'springy' friends just in case.
I approach my vehicle and the vehicle immediately pulls out and it looks like two Indians (Asian) inside. The driver rolls downs his window:
'Do you know where Algorths is?' With an Indian accent.
I reply, no sorry.
They drive away quickly laughing loudly.
So, I clue in immediately that he meant Hogwarts, but just has poor joke delivery skill, especially for after 12 am.
And if he thinks I look like Harry Potter, I will definitely
take that as a compliment.
I was discussing dating Asians with a colleague @ work...

One states they are not attracted to Asians.
Therefore, it is reasonable, not to consider Asians romantically.

However, it is also true...
One has a secret attraction to Asians.
One lurks and/or stalks Asians online.
One knows Asians demonstrate positive romantic qualities.
Therefore it is very questionable, to not consider Asians romantically.
This would be the case even if it was God's perfect will for the person to eventually be romantically linked with a European because the actions of the person demonstrate a lack of willingness, based on the person's own desires and nature, to consider Asians romantically.
This is likely God's permissible will taking place in the life of the person, not God's perfect will, due to human disobedience.
For a finite, sinful person considering all options within desire and nature is essential for learning God's perfect will.
The same reasoning can be applied to other like situations.

The corporate fitness room for security reasons has no open windows (fresh air being essential for a workout area IMHO), and due to corporate 'financial considerations' limited AC. The main user of the fitness room, a bodybuilder that spends about 16 hours a day on site, basically destroyed the previous fitness room floor by tossing his weights on that floor. This is at ground floor and I once received a complaint from a frightened young woman on the second floor as she feared a tremor, break in or such.
ReplyDeleteThe floor became damaged leading to a rumoured, according to one contracted worker, $15, 000+ tag for the new floor with a very strong smelling rubber covering. Employees complained about the strong odour while the bodybuilder unrepentant and unpunished, continues to toss his weights, which I can hear down in the parking area four floors below.
Months later the rubber smell is finally dissipating and can be replaced with the default, BO, mixed with leather and industrial cleaner smell. I preferred the rubber smell, if I had to choose.
I would never workout in that fitness room, due to nasal considerations and have my fitness equipment at home. However, my good friends Bobby Buff and Cousin Buff did slam my weights down one visit causing a light the floor below to become disconnected from its fixture...
Thanks to my European friend with some IT experience for verifying to me by clicking on one of my Blogger blogs that Stat Counter and Site Meter are not catching her pageviews from this Facebook blog to my Blogger blogs, or Blogger pageviews apart from this Facebook site.

As I have noted, according to Blogger official stats with no geographical locations, Stat Counter, Site Meter and HiStats perhaps record 10% of my Blogger views.
My own Canadian pageviews appear to be recorded but there seems to be virtually assured anonymity for stalkers...wink emoticon
